Air Force Materiel Command American Federation of Government Employees
Commitment to Achieve Health and Safety Excellence through
OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP)

The Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) and Council 214 of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) are committed to assuring that AFMC achieves environmental, health and safety (EHS) excellence in order to support and enhance the AFMC mission. We encourage all employees to be accountable for achieving this goal as a way of life. This commitment is based on a shared interest to pursue solutions that promote partnership, quality of work life, increased work quality and efficiencies, military readiness, and employee empowerment, while considering the legitimate interests of both labor and management. We will strive to provide and maintain a safe and healthful workplace as indicated by our desire to participate in the OSHA VPP. We will work together to eliminate foreseeable hazards that may result in harm to individuals, property or the environment.

Our program will combine leadership by AFMC management and AFGE Council 214, along with the participation of all employees and functions. We are committed to promoting a work environment that goes beyond compliance with relevant EHS laws and regulations. We think the following core values are an important part of the objective.

-- A commitment to worker safety and health protection.
-- An employee commitment to be responsible for personal safety and the safety of their fellow employees.
-- Active employee involvement in the development and implementation of the safety and health program.
-- The need to appropriately assess and manage EHS risks, thus ensuring a safe work environment.
-- To provide safety and health training to all employees to guarantee fulfillment of individual responsibilities and protection from potential hazards.
